Welcome to the Crown Scholars Program!
The Crown Scholars Program is part of the Honors College and is one of four major scholars programs at UNC Charlotte. Crown Scholarships are different because they represent the heritage of the University, as the packages are comprised of scholarships in the names of many of the University’s founding mothers and fathers, as well as leaders from the Charlotte region who have supported the University. Crown Scholars represent the “crowns” of the University Honors Program, the oldest and largest multi-year honors program at the University, founded in 1983.
As Crown Scholars, students are provided with support and opportunities that allow them to excel and grow during their time at UNC Charlotte. In addition to a merit scholarship that includes full tuition, room, board, and a stipend for study abroad, Crown Scholars receive support and enrichment through the Crown Scholars Program, the University Honors Program (UHP), and the Honors College. The Crown Scholars Program organizes enrichment and social events for students, including workshops on research and study abroad and events like football tailgates and international meals. The Crown Scholars Program also provides support through the Crown Faculty Fellow, who helps students to develop and implement a research agenda. As members of the UHP, Crown Scholars take honors classes, live in honors housing, and participate in all UHP activities, including community service and social events. Finally, as members of the Honors College, Crown Scholars have access to specialized advising, funding to present research at conferences, and honors events. Current Crown Scholars have taken advantage of these opportunities to become leaders across campus and throughout the community. Seven Crown Scholars currently serve as Presidents of a student organization at UNC Charlotte, with many more serving as Vice Presidents and other organization leaders. As students at North Carolina's only urban research institution, many Crown Scholars also participate in undergraduate research at UNC Charlotte in a variety of different fields, including Education, Psychology, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Business, and Computer Science. In the community, many Crown Scholars participate in competitive internships with organizations like Wells Fargo, Duke Energy, Kforce Staffing and Solutions, and TIAA. The Crown Scholars program is extremely proud of its students and their many accomplishments, including the recent awarding of a Goldwater Scholarship (the most prestigious national award for undergraduates in the sciences), participation in a Fulbright Summer Institute, and participation in summer research programs across the country, including MD Anderson Hospital in Texas and the University of Massachusetts in Boston. To learn more about our students and their many accomplishments, you can read their individual bios on the Meet the Scholars page.
